LG V40 ThinQ - Sample Pictures

Below are some sample photos for you to review and make your own judgements. I think each lens does a great job handling dynamic range while maintaining quite a bit of detail.

Blackberry KEY2 - In Pictures

I've had access to the Blackberry KEY2 for a little over two weeks now and I think its camera could use a bit of an update. It's kind of slow at focusing and doesn't do well in lowlight situations, something that shouldn't be as big of an issue as it is on the KEY2 considering it has two camera sensors. Take a look at these sample images...

Interesting Things from CES 2018

Here's a photo gallery and quick synopsis of the things I wish I had more time to make videos on.

TCL

First up, TCL and their TVs! They ones the had on display did not disappoint. They looked phenomenal packing a visually pleasing display with built in audio to match.

Blackberry

While I was visiting the TCL booth I got a chance to check out the Blackberry Motion. Definitely something I want to try and get my hands on for a review.

Marantz Professional

There was an interesting Marantz addition to giving DSLR and mirrorless camera shooters the ability to power their XLR microphones. The PDM-706 and PDM-602A are ways you can record high quality audio to cameras that don't have XLR ports.

GoPro

Then there was GoPro with their 360 action camera. Surprisingly they had the nerve to display the Karma at their booth, having just made the announcement they were going to discontinue it.

Autel Robotics

Autel Robotics had their new EVO on display in full force. It took over much of their booth and was the key focus of what they wanted to showcase. Basically a foldable drone that is driven towards portability. They gimbal looked a bit concerning to me as it didn't seem balanced when the drone was powered off, hopefully this is the result of preproduction, as the camera seemed a bit front heavy. Maybe that's by design...?

HENSOLDT

And finally, in the drone area, I saw this crazy take-down drone technology that looked like something out of the Terminator. I really got a kick out of this and could totally see this becoming something we see at major events.

I had a good time at CES this year, but I think I'm going to take a break from the show for awhile. I found myself looking for more camera gear than anything else, which brought me to a realization that I should probably focus on NAB instead. It's less crowded, there's way more cool stuff (at least to me), it's way cheaper to attend, and the weather is much better.

I hope you enjoyed my coverage of the show. With y'all, this type of thing isn't possible for me and I sincerely appreciate the support!

What To Expect - CES 2018

I plan to bring to you a plethora of different videos on interesting new developments and some new product announcements.

There have been some announcements in camera stabilization that have peaked my interest. Firstly the DJI Ronin S is something that is a first for DJI. It's an interesting jump into single handed camera stabilization for DJI. Hopefully I can pull some pricing info from them at the booth.

Zhiyun Crane Plus

Another big player in camera stabilization is Zhiyun, and they're planning on announcing a new player into the single handed stabilizers game at this year's show. They have said it has some really neat features that set itself apart from the other Crane offerings like has POV mode, SmartFollow, NightLapse, and MotionMemory. Most importantly it's listed as having a payload of 2.5K (5.5lbs).

Next on my list of 'must-sees' are LG's new 4K and 5K ultra-wide monitors that feature nano IPS technology. They will should have a 32-inch and 34-inch variant on display and I plan on taking a much closer look at them. They are priced very well and I think they will be a big hit with the proconsumer market (click/tap the pictures below to see pricing).

Cameras! I'll make my way on over to the Canon booth to see if there's any updates on the C200 firmware that is supposed to hit in the first quarter of 2018. Additionally I want to stop by the Panasonic booth to see if I can get some time with the GH5S.

Moving on to audio; Sennheiser has announced the HD 820, a closed back option to their hi-resolution headphone lineup. The HD 800s where some of the best headphones I've ever had the opportunity to listen to, they were missing that one key component - being closed backed. They're super expensive and I can't wait to give them a try (full disclosure Sennheiser were kind enough to power my audio by hooking me up with a AVX system for CES).

Roland R-07

I will make my stop at the Roland booth to take a look at their new portable recorder - the R-07. It looks like a neat little recorder that I'm interested in taking a look at.

If there's anything else you'd like me to try and get hands on with, leave me a comment below!
